On a visit to Germany in 1950 Rev Harold Allen
decided it was time for reconciliation after the
war and he invited people from Dorsten to come to
Northern Ireland. A young group came the following
year and as minister of Ballyclare Presbyterian
Church he organised exchange parties to go from
Ballyclare to Dorsten. This partnership continues
until today and these latest visitors in the summer
of 2003 enjoyed a walk and learned a little of the
history of the area. There is now a street in
Dorsten named after Harold Allen and Newtownabbey
is twinned with the town
