This
remarkable photograph of the
Square in Ballyclare was taken in
the 1880s and comes from a set of
Victorian slides discovered by
Andrew Gill in Lancashire. Using
the Internet he contacted this
site and was provided with the
information to create one of his
famous Magic Lantern shows. We
are grateful to him for
permission to reproduce the
restored photos. The column which
has long since been demolished
was a monument to a local doctor.
The Town Hall had a clock tower
added in 1935. George II in 1756
granted the Earl of Donegal the
right to have two fairs a year in
Ballyclare. The greatest was the
May Fair which is still
celebrated
