COWBOYS FROM BALLYEASTON

The quiet village of Ballyeaston in County Antrim would seem to be far removed from the American Wild West yet they are linked by the Graham family. John was born in 1851 shortly before his father Samuel decided to take the family to the New World. He was to die with his brothers Tom and William in the Pleasant Valley Range War in Arizona.

Samuel was born in Scotland in 1818 and like many others crossed the narrow sea to Ulster and settled at Ballyboley. He married Jane Ballentine on 3rd February 1841. She gave him five children, Allen, Margaret, Mary, Jane and John. Three were baptised in 1st Ballyeaston Presbyterian Church.
