Mossley
Mill provided employment for local people
for nearly two hundred years. It began as
a calico printing works and soon it passed
into the hands of the cotton kings of the
day, the Grimshaw family. who made it a
linen spinning mill.
It now
has taken on a new role as the
Headquarters of Newtownabbey Borough
Council and was opened by HRH Prince
Charles in June 2000
A book
telling the story of the mill has been
published and Ballyclare Historical
Society presented an evening on the
history of the mill followed by a tour to
see how the building had been
restored.
A new
video "Mossley Memories" records the
experiences of workers and the transition
from spinning mill to Civic Centre.
Another has been produced for
Flame
in
Carrickfergus of their restored
Gasworks
