The town of Ballyclare grew up at a crossing place
on the the river originally known as the Ollar, the
River of the Rushes. At this point the weir was
constructed to divert water to the Paper Mill. The
narrow gauge railway once ran through this area
which is now parkland which extends from edge to
edge of the town.
