Members of the Historical Society were among
the first to explore a newly discovered souterrain
in Ballyclare. Diggers making a drain uncovered the
roof of this underground chamber and its passages
which were constructed as a hiding place from
Viking invaders and were later used to store
food.We were the first people to enter it in a
thousand years.
